I only played travel soccer once because my parents didn’t like missing church on Sundays. I played soccer through highschool inwhich I got four concussions in two years( only one was a header). During the early 1900s, Soccer began to become popular in the South. While it was seen as a Northern sport reserved for the Ivy League scholars, the small communities of Irish and British immigrants caused the sport to have a foothold in the South. History was made in December 1893 when the Colleen Bawns beat the Bonnie Lassies 2-0 on a soccer field in San Francisco in what is recognized as the first ever women’s soccer match played on American soil.
